Outbreak of Leaf Spot and Fruit Rot in Florida Strawberry Caused by Neopestalotiopsis spp.

چکیده

Pestalotiopsis-like species have been reported affecting strawberry worldwide. Recently, severe and unprecedented outbreaks in Florida commercial fields where leaf, fruit, petiole, crown, root symptoms were observed, yield was severely affected. The taxonomic status of the fungus is confusing because it has gone through multiple reclassifications over years. Morphological characteristics, phylogenetic analyses, pathogenicity tests evaluated for isolates recovered from diseased plants Florida. Phylogenetic analyses derived combined internal transcribed spacer, β-tub, tef1 regions demonstrated that although there low genetic diversity among isolates, a clear separation two groups. first group included period several years, which identified as Neopestalotiopsis rosae. Most during recent genetically different may belong to new species. On potato dextrose agar, both groups produced white, circular, cottony colonies. From bottom, colonies white pale yellow sp. luteous orange N. Spores five-celled with three median versicolored cells. Mycelial growth spore production higher isolates. Isolates pathogenic roots crowns. However, proved more aggressive fruit leaf inoculation tests, confirming observations

Resistance of Strawberry Cultivars to Crown Rot Caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides Isolates from Florida Is Nonspecific

Colletotrichum crown rot of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duchesne) can be caused by any of three fungi, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (teleomorph Glomerella cingulata), C. fragariae, or C. acutatum (17,27). The closely related species C. fragariae and C. gloeosporioides produce a reddish-brown necrosis of crown tissue following infection that causes plants to wilt and collapse (27). Under g...

Etiology and Population Genetics of Colletotrichum spp. Causing Crown and Fruit Rot of Strawberry.

ABSTRACT Isolates of Colletotrichum spp. from diseased strawberry fruit and crowns were evaluated to determine their genetic diversity and the etiology of the diseases. Isolates were identified to species using polymerase chain reaction primers for a ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region and their pathogenicity was evaluated in bioassays. Isolates were scored for variation at 40 putative...

Epidemiology and Control of Strawberry Bacterial Angular Leaf Spot Disease Caused by Xanthomonas fragariae

Strawberry bacterial angular leaf spot (ALS) disease, caused by Xanthomonas fragariae has become increasingly problematic in the strawberry agro-industry. ALS causes small angular water-soaked lesions to develop on the abaxial leaf surface. Studies reported optimum temperature conditions for X. fragariae are 20°C and the pathogen suffers mortality above 32°C. However, at the nursery stage, dise...

Leaf Spot and Stem Rot on Wilford Swallowwort Caused by Stemphylium lycopersici in Korea

In June 2012, leaf spot and stem rot were observed on Wilford Swallowwort plants grown in Cheonan, Korea. Three fungal isolates obtained from the diseased leaves and stems were identified as Stemphylium lycopersici, based on morphological, cultural, and molecular characteristics and pathogenicity. This is the first report of leaf spot and stem rot on Wilford Swallowwort caused by S. lycopersici.

Leaf Spot and Foot Rot of Kentucky Bluegrass Caused by Helminthosporium Vagans ' '

In an abstract ^ published in 1922 the writer reported the widespread occurrence on Kentucky bluegrass {Poa pratensis L.) of a leaf spot caused by a species of Helminthosporium. Often, especially in moist situations, the lesions had been found on the leaf sheaths at the base of the plants as well as on the blades, giving rise to a condition comparable to foot rot of wheat. A brief account of th...
